South Africa will be dancing to the tunes of Nelson Mandela Bay this summer as 14 of the city’s finest upcoming artists will enter the music scene with a compilation CD sponsored by the Municipality.
The fourteen artists from Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage got the opportunity of a lifetime to feature in the bay’s first ever municipal sponsored compilation CD, Best of Bay (BOP). The artists recorded the songs independently but the mastering and related processes were done by the renowned national stable, Kalawa Jazzmee, earlier this year.
The initiative is yet another attempt by the municipality’s Film and Music Office to unlock the economic potential of the industry and help local artists make a living from their talents.
Editor’s Notes: Let’s hope that the municipality’s Film and Music Office makes a heap of money from CD sales then becomes a self sustaining unit that creates jobs and contributes to a better life for all.

WTF are rate payers monies being (mii)used for yet again! Whenever something of this nature occurs, I get a sense that a couple of comrades are getting wealthy for no reason related to hard, honest work…
Having spoken to many local musicians,it becomes clear that very few are aware of the nmbfm office. Thats a concern. Looking into the website I note that neither the vision statement or mission statement covers music. So what exactly is the focus here?
Kudos for preparing a CD. But what will be the measure of success and what is the strategy going forward? Nmbfm has not as yet offered any leadership that local musicians can tap into. Finally, lets keep in mind that upcoming musicians are just that: musicians who have yet to pay their dues. What about the established, experienced musos, some of whom already take their place on stages worldwide?
