If you have over the counter business to transact with the Municipality today your attempts to do so may be thwarted:
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality regrets the inconvenience caused to residents by the closure of some customer care centres and municipal banking halls such as in the Mfanasekhaya Gqobose Building (formerly known as the Eric Tindale Building), following labour unrest among staff members, which saw them abandon their counters and workstations. On Wednesday morning 12 June 2013 at 08h00, an urgent meeting was held in order to resolve the issues at hand. The meeting was attended by the Acting Chief Financial Officer, the management of the Budget and Treasury Directorate, Human Resources representatives, SAMWU and IMATU leadership and staff representatives.
The issues discussed, included the re-grading of staff, including counter staff and cashiers; the acquisition of protective clothing/uniforms for staff working in the Assistance to the Poor Programme (ATTP); as well as a Casual allowance/fixed locomotion allowance for ATTP staff
The Acting Chief Financial Officer (who assumed the Acting position last Friday) requested time to familiarize herself with the issues and committed to respond to staff by next week Friday, 21 June 2013. In the interim, certain issues would be resolved, such as the purchasing of uniforms and motivating re-grading matters to Corporate Services.
Given the cooperative spirit of the meeting, the Unions indicated their willingness to persuade the staff to go back to work. However, indications are that staff will not be returning to work this morning.
Residents can pay their municipal accounts at any of the approximately 40 post offices across Nelson Mandela Bay.
