The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality still has a mini Joint Operations Centre (JOC) active as water levels subside after heavy rain hit the city over the weekend.
Safety and Security officials are still monitoring conditions at the JOC as water levels subside.
On Saturday 9 June Disaster Management Officials assisted 186 people from the New Rest Informal Settlement with mattresses, soup and blankets and accommodated them at nearby facilities. Today Water and Sanitation assisted communities from Airport Valley, Area Q and Missionvale by suctioning water from approximately 100 flooded shacks.
At the Kuyga Community Hall 77 people are being accommodated and 100 people from Shamrock (in the vicinity of Rocklands) are being accommodated and assisted with blankets, mattresses and soup.
Road Closure: On Sunday only the Seaview Road in the direction of Seaview was still closed due to high water levels and at approximately 10am two motorists received assistance as their vehicles got stuck in the water mass.
Power outages: As a result of the inclement weather we are experiencing power outages in parts of Rosedale (Uitenhage), Woodlands (Lorraine), KwaDwesi, Soweto-on-Sea, Hudson Street (Newton Park), KwaZakhele and Young Park amongst others.
All the electricity faults are being attended to and we request the public to continue to consider all electricity installations as live.
Residents are requested to report any potential hazardous situations to the municipality’s 24 hour call centre at 0800 20 50 50.
