In response to the rumour that is flying around that the Metro’s drinking water is unsafe, please be advised that our drinking water is in fact safe; this has also been confirmed by the latest test results of the Municipality’s Scientific Laboratory Services Division. The “clean” (ecoli-free) test results also apply to KwaZakhele, where there was recently an outbreak of shigella.
The Municipality tests its drinking water at approximately 100 testing points all over the Metro, on a weekly basis. Any below-standard results are immediately attended to, e.g. through the addition of chlorine, after which a resample is taken to confirm that the water is of the required purety.
As stated, the drinking water in all areas of the Metro is safe, as has been scientifically confirmed. However, some ecoli has been detected in the water supply of the residents of Tiryville. Purely as a precautionary measure, the residents of Tiryville are therefore requested to boil their drinking water. Measures are being taken to address the problem, and the residents of Tiryville will be advised soon when they can stop boiling their water.
It is again confirmed that the test results in respect of all other areas of the Metro are clean (ecoli-free).
