Late to Bed and Early to Rise for Councillors

Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Zanoxolo Wayile warned senior managers of the Municipality on Thursday that a five day visit to ward areas experiencing service delivery problems is required and that no excuses will be accepted.

His words are barely cold and a programme that will start on Monday (February 21) and end on Friday (February 25), was put in place to ensure that all Councillors and Executive Directors experience first hand what is taking place in the most remote corners of Nelson Mandela Bay.

All Councillors and Executive Directors as well as relevant officials will meet at the Port Elizabeth City Hall at 07:45 and depart at 08:00 to the various wards.

These visits will take Councillors through these wards: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 33, 36, 37, 39, 40, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59 and 60.

Editors Notes: The communique above did say that the visit will be to the Townships but that smacked too much of discrimination and sketched an image of a gaggle of tourists going along for a thrill so, sorry Kupido, I removed those references.

Although the Mayor did point out on Thursday that people (i.e Councillors and Officials) must stop wanting to go on overseas tours and rather tour their own backyards (townships) with the view to fixing what can be fixed!

Is it just me or does this tour signify a changing of the guard – in the past we had the National Party Arrogance Tour, replaced by the White Guilt Tour and now we will have the Government Privilege Tour? Don’t forget to take sweeties with Councillors!
