Dear MyPE
Yesterday’s launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, has yet again placed the spotlight on the suffering of women and children in South Africa.
Since the beginning of August, DAWN in the Eastern Cape embarked on a campaign that speaks against gender-based violence. Gender-based violence has reached crisis levels in the Eastern Cape and South Africa as a whole.
Women are facing many challenges. They have to sleep with men in authority, merely to obtain a job to provide for their families.
This abuse of power is a daily reality for women and therefore it cannot be business as usual.
As DAWN in the Eastern Cape we condemn these actions and want to make it clear that women’s bodies are not CV’s for jobs.
Women deserve a better life and we are on the ground every day to advocate for this.
We are going door-to-door in the province and holding street meetings to interact with suffering women.
Our objective is to create a society where women need not fear discrimination and abuse.
Therefore we call on all women not to be silent and stand up for their rights.
The ANC government has failed to protect the rights of women and children, the most vulnerable in our society.
We therefore also condem the alleged sex for marks scandal in certain Eastern Cape schools.
Only a DA government can ensure that the most vulnerable in our society are protected and that we create One South Africa for All.
