Quite disturbing to hear that a national company is “cleaning up” their executive team by asking potential high level employees to confirm that they are NOT gay before the potential employee is offered a job.
Are these questions next: “Please confirm that you are not now or ever have been white/male/female/black/coloured/indian/heterosexual/promiscuous/friends with JuJu/?”

What is wrong with a company national or local, big or small, who wants to be selective on who they hire? I don’t want to hire Nigerians.
I want to hire the BEST person for the job regardless of what they look like or who they sleep with – if they fail then I also want to be able to fire them without being accused of bias or discrimination.
The Equality Clause of the Constitution and the Equality Act make it illegal to unfairly discriminate against any person for any of these reasons: race, gender, sex, pregnancy, marital status, ethnic origin, social origin, colour, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, conscience, belief, culture, language or birth.
The laws of our country are there to be followed, they are what we fought for and if we find them unpalatable then, however difficult it may be, we need to follow the correct steps to change them.
As an example – I always have a sense of disquiet when presented with the dictates of BEE under such a liberal constitution.
The only way you can ‘legally discriminate’ by NOT hiring Nigerians is if they are illegally in South Africa.
BTW – the person asked the question whether he is gay confirmed that he was not which raises all sorts of questions and makes him complicit in a conspiracy to exclude. Now that he has committed such a ‘crime’ it will be easier to justify other ‘more heinous’ discriminations based on colour or gender.
Okay Ramon, you don’t want to hire Nigerians – well I only want to hire white men between the ages of 38 and 45 years old who are heterosexual. Should that be allowed?
In this day and age I would think that this company should be taken to task with their archaic policy. They ought to be named and shamed!
…..
