The only municipality in the world named after the late political icon, Dr Nelson Mandela, will be hosting several interfaith prayers and wreath laying ceremonies today at 3pm to honour the memory of this great politician and intellectual.
The sites are Vuyisile Mini Square (the site where Dr Nelson Mandela received the Freedom of the City), Nelson Mandela Peace Park, Uitenhage Market Square, Jeff Masemola Hall, Nangoza Jebe Hall and the George Botha Indoor Sports Centre.
We encourage the public to be part of the ceremonies and would like to remind them of the Condolence Books at the Port Elizabeth City Hall, Uitenhage Town Hall and the Nelson Mandela Peace Park in Motherwell.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is currently hosting the final day of the IRB Sevens Rugby at the award-winning stadium named after the tenth President of the ANC and the Springboks (famously used by Dr Mandela to unite the country) will try their best to win the Nelson Mandela Bay leg of the tournament for the first time.
