Bob Skinstad and Dave Usendorff in Port Elizabeth

Both rugby and golf fans will be delighted to know that sport stars, Bob Skinstad (former rugby player) and Dave Usendorff (pro golfer and TV personality), will be in Port Elizabeth on 30 July.

The two sport personalities will be in conversation as part of a fun evening at Pearson High School (PHS) presented by the PHS Concert Band in aid of their tour to Reunion Island in September. The band has been invited to visit Reunion as part of a cultural exchange program between South Africa and Reunion Island.

Tickets are available from Tracey (083 445 5102) at R150 p.p. and include finger snacks and a lucky draw. Guests must bring their own beverages. An auction will form part of the fun.

The function starts at 18h30 for 19h00 at Pearson High School on 30 July 2013.

The Skinstad Usendorff event forms part of the events to raise funds for the Pearson High School Concert Band to Visit Reunion Island.

The Pearson High School (PHS) Concert Band has been invited to visit Reunion Island as part of a cultural exchange project between Reunion Island and South Africa.

The band’s visit, from 22 September until 6 October, will form part of South Africa Season being celebrated in France during 2013. (Reunion is an overseas department and region of France.)

Families of the Reunion orchestra, Orchestre Polyphonia, under leadership of conductor Pierre Varo, will be the hosts of the Pearson Concert Band on Reunion Island.

In turn, another Reunion Orchestra under leadership of Pierre Varo, Orchestre Concertina, will visit Port Elizabeth from 9 – 14 March 2014 as guests of the PHS Concert Band concluding the cultural exchange project.

Approximately 12 concerts have been organised for the PHS Concert Band, consisting of 42 members and under leadership of conductor Petrus Meyer, on Reunion Island. Some of them will be joint performances by the South African and Reunion Orchestras. In turn the PHS Concert Band will organize concerts for Orchestre Concertina for their visit to Port Elizabeth in March 2014.

Being a French region, the currency on Reunion Island is the Euro, which causes visits to the island to be extremely expensive for South Africans.

The other fundraising projects include the Route 67 Art trail from Campanile to Donkin, a Walmer Park performance in front of St Elmo’s and the Pearson Garden & Art Spring Festival.
