I admit that I have been a bit grumpy for the last 12 years or so and may be out of practice when it comes to the more subtle art of communication but this exchange has me questioning my sanity slightly…
One of the pages I manage over on “Group Sex for Amoebas” OR, as you know it, Facebook, is one promoting Port Elizabeth businesses (for free I might add) and it goes by the name of MyPE Advertising – catchy, don’t you think?
Anyway the following conversation has reference.
(JM) posed this question via messenger: Hi good day can you please send me a quote for +-70 people for the venue at St George’s bowling club hall thanks
Stupid Facebook then replied with this canned message at 8:35 am: Thanks for messaging us. We try to be as responsive as possible. We’ll get back to you soon.
JM replied at 9:49 pm: Hi I’m still waiting on a quote
I (MyPE.co.za Advertising) replied at 9:50 pm: You contacted MyPE and not St Georges – please direct your query to the bowling club
JM replied immediately and said: Wish u could have wrote me that in the first place and who ever you are please respond more professional next time thanks
“WOW,” I thought as I reread my reply wondering if what I had written was so rude to warrant such a snarky reply.
Wounded, I wrote back: Sorry to hear that you are having a bad day – sending positive thoughts.
So, you tell me; “Was what I wrote in redirecting JM to the Bowling Club and gently pointing out her mistake deserving of such a snarky reply or am I being too sensitive here?”

I’d say JM mistook you for laggard Stupid Facebooker (or ally thereof) hence the testy response. Understandable if not really excusable.
I so miss those days when we used the Interwebs to actually learn something and the journey to find that information was half the fun…
I’m often found on my soapbox ranting about the decline of the net from a incredible medium of knowledge dissemination to a means for instant transfer of acrimony and aggression. Modern man making primitive use of ingenious tools.
