Just for You J9

16 July 2024 By Alan Straton

Many will know that we run our various sites on auto-pilot and on a shoestring - it is the Scottish blood coming out! Anyway J9 alerted us to the fact that our articles on MyPE that are auto posted to Facebook are being 'blessed' with the incorrect URL's rendering them pretty useless. So this post is a test to see: If J9 is actually reading this and has successfully followed the Facebook link OR If more head scratching and swearing will lie ahead for me this day! Of course what … [Read more...] about Just for You J9

The Real Reason Why FB is Called ‘Group Sex for Amoebas’

8 March 2024 By Alan Straton

If I had One Rand for every time I read this following message I may just have enough to buy a fairly decent EV: "I hereby state i do not give my permission for facebook to use any of my information or posts!! I do not give permission!!!!" We have all seen variations of the above message being posted by many of our online 'friends'. Allow me to burst your bubble. Saying the above is akin to going to the casino and writing the same message on every Rand you gamble with - after all the money … [Read more...] about The Real Reason Why FB is Called ‘Group Sex for Amoebas’

If Your Strategy to Find Employees Includes Recruiting in Bars then….

15 February 2019 By Alan Straton

Bayworld

Recruiting in other places where they spend their leisure time / most of their time may be a good idea. Like Facebook? Whose latest spam mail reads; "Hiring? Reach applicants where they spend time — on Facebook" On the face of it it seems like a good idea - if you are hiring as a social media company invested in promoting your clients on Facebook and the like. Practically it won't work in most offices as more and more businesses these days are banning all access to Facebook and other time … [Read more...] about If Your Strategy to Find Employees Includes Recruiting in Bars then….

Am I Being Rude Here?

15 January 2018 By Alan Straton

I admit that I have been a bit grumpy for the last 12 years or so and may be out of practice when it comes to the more subtle art of communication but this exchange has me questioning my sanity slightly... One of the pages I manage over on "Group Sex for Amoebas" OR, as you know it, Facebook, is one promoting Port Elizabeth businesses (for free I might add) and it goes by the name of MyPE Advertising - catchy, don't you think? Anyway the following conversation has reference. (JM) posed … [Read more...] about Am I Being Rude Here?

I am loving this new Facebook Functionality, Nick Klichowicz

5 August 2017 By Alan Straton

Nick Klichowicz

It used to be that I got really irritated whenever Facebook popped up a message along these lines; "It's (so and so's) birthday today. Why don't you wish him/her a Happy Birthday?" Irritated? Because one, even if I DIDN'T need to be reminded I now knew that by going to the birthday person's wall/page and wishing them Happy Birthday they would know that I had reacted to a Facebook reminder so didn't really qualify as a friend. Because two, it becomes a pain to have to go and actually write … [Read more...] about I am loving this new Facebook Functionality, Nick Klichowicz
