The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality wishes to inform residents and businesses that the second phase of repairs at the Korhaansdrift/Scheepersvlakte Canal, which feeds water to the the Nooitgedagt Water Treatment Work, will commence on 29 July 2024.
As a result of this repair work, water distribution from the canal will be shutdown for seven days.
The scope of works includes:
- Installation of a sub-soil drainage system in the downstream tie-in.
- Reinforcement of the HDPE liner on both the upstream and downstream tie-ins.
The purpose of this shut is to secure the tie-in infrastructure until the permanent concrete sections can be installed during the next available shutdown period during June/July 2025.
Based on lessons learnt during the first shutdown period, the NMBM has planned extensively and made system adjustments to ensure that water disruptions are kept to a minimum during this seven day shutdown.
The following areas will be affected:
- Motherwell
- Wells Estate
- BluewaterBay
- Arcadia
- Bethelsdorp
- Chatty
- Kwadwesi
- Joe Slovo
- Perseverance
- Despatch
- Fairbridge Heights
Water trucks will be available at locations closest to the affected residents or businesses to mitigate the impact of the shutdown. Truck positions will be communicated on the NMBM social media platforms.
We ask all consumers to use water sparingly during this time to delay the time for the reservoirs to dry out, completely cutting off water from the normal distribution system.
