THIS is What is Meant by the Term ‘Link Love’

22 February 2011 By Alan Straton

On all the millions of web sites around the world – not including those pseudo Facebook and Twitter ‘sites’ – the competition to get good organic rankings on Google, Yahoo, Bing and the other search engines and directories is tough.

One of the ranking factors used by Google to determine whether a web site appears on the front page of results, or is buried in la la land on page 2 or worse, is the number of sites pointing back to the site in question. These links are variously called backlinks, link love or inlinks.

The equation is simple: the higher the number of web sites that link to YOUR web site the more popular your web site appears to search engines and the higher your web site will appear in the listings.

As an example: at the time of writing the Yahoo Search Engine is showing 71 922 links from other web sites back to MyPE (Click HERE to confirm).

Now, MyPE tries as hard as possible to return link love – all the listings in the MyPE Business Directory are ‘followed’ links – the best of the best and regular contributors to the news section on MyPE are also linked back to.

What really makes me grateful and fills my eyes with lubricant is when I see something such as this on a web site linking to MyPE: SA-SEO.

When you follow the above link you will see a little ICON linking to that author’s page on MyPE, By doing so Edward is boosting the links back to MyPE and spreading his knowledge in an ethical manner.

Edward has also kindly made the icons that he used available so that anyone else who would like to link to MyPE from their web site may use them free.
