It’s Official – PE doesn’t care
Or was Shell just successful at making it as difficult as possible for the citizens of Port Elizabeth to attend a public meeting called by Shell, in terms of the Minimum Emission Standards legislation, to get feedback from the public on Shells application to have their compliance extended with an amendment to The National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act (NEM: AQA) (No. 39, 2004) published in the Government Gazette no. 36161 on 15 February 2013. The public attendance was extremely … [Read more...] about It’s Official – PE doesn’t care
Friday Rant – Shell
I just cannot get my head around Shell's calling of a public meeting from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm this evening at the Grand Hotel in Central and then suddenly changing the venue to the NMMU Conference Centre, Building 235, North Campus. By doing so they have further inconvenienced many people. Could they have done this so as to 'limit' the members of the public attending and commenting? See: And Shell Swerve again – with a venue change | Your chance to stop Shell trampling on your rights | … [Read more...] about Friday Rant – Shell
And Shell Swerve again – with a venue change
I have just received this note notifying of a change of venue for the public meeting called by Shell South Africa and dealing with Shells' application for postponement of compliance with the minimum emission standards for the Shell Port Elizabeth Terminal: Dear Stakeholder Please note that the venue for the public meeting on the 16.05.2014 has changed to the NNMU Conference Centre, building 235, North Campus, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Nelson Mandela Bay, Port Elizabeth. The … [Read more...] about And Shell Swerve again – with a venue change
Swerving Shell
The tank farm in the Port Elizabeth harbour is managed by Shell. The National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act (NEM: AQA) (No. 39, 2004) amendment published in the Government Gazette no. 36161 on 15 February 2013 now requires Shell to tighten up their environmental controls - i.e. spend money on ensuring the continued good health of all citizens within close proximity of the harbour! The act does allow for Shell to ask for permission to extend the time to compliance. This … [Read more...] about Swerving Shell
Your chance to stop Shell trampling on your rights
The deadline for objections to Shell South Africa extending their compliance with their Air Emissions Licence at the Port Elizabeth harbour's Tank Farm is on 27 April 2014. Paul Martin has laid out his concerns on the ABYC web site here. Sign the petition below to send Shell a strong message that PE Citizens will not continue to sanction the pollution of our harbour, beaches and air with an aging facility that is long overdue to be moved from the PE Harbour and freeing up valuable land … [Read more...] about Your chance to stop Shell trampling on your rights
Pugh Tells Shell to Frack Off (Nicely)
On Friday 25 March 2011, Cape Town Environmentalist and "human polar bear" Lewis Pugh took on the oil companies, including Dutch oil giant Shell, over their plan to prospect for shale gas in the Karoo using a controversial drilling method called hydraulic fracturing (fracking). See the video of Lewis Pugh's speech below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvcvzTKEFd8 Some sound bites from Pugh's speech: Enshrined in our constitution is the right to a healthy environment Let us not … [Read more...] about Pugh Tells Shell to Frack Off (Nicely)
Dear Shell You May Frack Underneath These Farms
With reference to the 'Proposed South Western Karoo Basin Gas Exploration Project by Shell' and in the interests of fair play I have perused the nearly 11 000 farms in the Western, Central and Eastern region that could be affected by your fracking (see: List of Potentially Affected Farms) and have compiled a list of 13 farms that I have no objection to you continuing with hydraulic fracking on. You may proceed with hydraulic fracking under the following farms in the Western … [Read more...] about Dear Shell You May Frack Underneath These Farms
Fracking With Shell
Oil giant Shell has detailed its plans to explore natural gas in the Karoo basin. The company has already applied to Petroleum Agency South Africa for exploration rights in the south-western Karoo basin to assess viable, unconventional gas resources. It has also appointed an independent consultancy to compile an environmental management programme (EMP). In a media session on Thursday, Shell vice president Bonang Mohale said the exploration activities would include geophysical studies and … [Read more...] about Fracking With Shell
Take Your Fracking and Frack Off
As a Shell executive reading this please take note of the following thread of connectivity - much like the thread of underground connectivity that may destroy the Karoo as a result of your plans to proceed with hydraulic fracking: MyPE has been very vocal about the oil tanks in the Port Elizabeth Harbour, encouraging you to take your tanks and frack off. Your attempts to calm the local natives by taking them to lunch and spin doctoring the hell out of them were not succesful. The oil … [Read more...] about Take Your Fracking and Frack Off
