As 20 odd years removed, ex Richmond Hill residents, that lived in sin, the Longhair and I have quite an affinity for the old houses and relaxed living that the area offers. We have watched with interest just how the area has experienced ups and downs - currently the Richmond Hill area is hot, hot, hot. Gathering under the rallying cry of "Born This Way" the gay and lesbian community of Port Elizabeth, Nelson Mandela Bay and further afield will take part in the Nelson Mandela Bay Pride March on Saturday 24 September. On Saturday 3 September the Prince and Princesses will be elected from around the Eastern Cape to take part in the King and Queen of Pride contest on 23 September. On 18 June from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, Alliance Française of Port Elizabeth, Summerstrand Hotel, Kingfisher FM and the Mandela Bay Development Agency along with restaurants and coffee shops in the neighbourhood will be hosting the second Richmond Hill Street Music Festival. Third Time Lucky

For 18 months now the Longhair and I have been taking the dogs for a walk in Settlers Park. We park in the new improved public parking off Chelmsford Avenue and wander through the park appreciating the bird and wildlife whilst the dogs swim and relax. All through this time we have told people that we have never felt unsafe in the park. Admittedly when you are packing a German Shepard and a Bull Terrier it is easy enough to feel smug and safe.
