The Public Health: Waste Management Sub directorate is experiencing staff shortage on the refuse service (Refuse Carriers). To deal with this challenge the Sub directorate approached the EPWP office in order to recruit 200 participants for Waste Management Services. The EPWP workers will resume duties on Monday, 8 July 2019. Backlog on refuse collection will only be attended next week on the normal scheduled collection days due to budgetary constraints. The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is experiencing a refuse collection challenge due to labour related issues within the Waste Management Sub-Directorate. These issues are in the process of being resolved. The consequence thereof was that only limited refuse collection services i.e. in Ibhayi areas, were performed in the NMBM today.
