The time has come for the public and the Transet National Port Authority to stop operating in a bubble and denying plain financial facts when it comes to the relocation of the Manganese Ore and Tank Farm facilities within the Port of Port Elizabeth. Certain diesel/oil burning ships can produce as much pollutants as 700 trucks. Manganese line to be shut down for maintenance

Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) will shut down its Manganese line as part of its annual large scale maintenance. “The shutdown will commence on 2 August with the anticipation that all work will be completed on 8 August 2018,” Transnet said in a statement on Thursday. Transnet has signed another seven and a half year export manganese contract with Tshipi é Ntle, a local mining company, which will see a total of 2.1 million tonnes of manganese railed per annum. Early this morning workers from the Transnet National Ports Authority were out on Strand Street sweeping up the Manganese Ore dust pollution caused by transport trucks delivering Manganese to the Port of Port Elizabeth. The TNPA says that next week they will be tackling the Port Elizabeth roads leading from the Markman and Swartkops depots to the Port.
