Nceba Faku Revolootionary

20 May 2011 By Alan Straton

Son of the soil, communist, trade unionist, entrepreneur, revolootionary and now failed son of Nelson Mandela Bay........... Nceba Faku Instead of graciously thanking your supporters for staying the course with you and promising them better government and transparency you chose to play that tired old game, loved by Primary School bullies and called transference. (e.g. Has anyone at Standard House called you a capitalist lately? They may be afraid that you will label them as a … [Read more...] about Nceba Faku Revolootionary

Tour de New Brighton

13 January 2011 By Alan Straton

Spontaneous applause breaks out as the cyclists whiz past spectators in a blur of colour, but this is no international tour. It is just another training ride for the Siyanqoba Cycling Club on the streets of New Brighton in Port Elizabeth. "We've never had such things in the townships," said club chairman Yster Xatasi. The Act aims to prevent tragedies like the 2001 Ellis Park Stadium disaster … [Read more...] about A Safer Cycle Tour

The Fall and Fall of the Slumlord

8 January 2011 By Alan Straton

www.MyPE.co.za: I was tempted to title this piece; "The Rise and Rise of the Slumlord" but that might have intimated that the reign of the Port Elizabeth Slumlords was over and that they have made their buildings rise out of neglect to their former glory! It is a sad fact that out various candidate and fully qualified slumlords are still flipping the bird to the citizens of Port Elizabeth and our so called organs of authority. God forbid that they are actually human organs as we would … [Read more...] about The Fall and Fall of the Slumlord

Printing an Image for the Cycle Tour

5 January 2011 By Fullstop

www.MyPE.co.za: Ploughing back into the community has become big business for Port Elizabeth company Bukani Print. For the third year running co-owners Alan Taylor and Iqbal Sain are lending their considerable printing expertise to The Herald VW Cycle Tour, which takes place in and around PE on February 5 and 6. The festival of cycling starts with the mountain biking events at Addo on the Saturday and culminates in the 105-kilometre feature race and supporting events at Hobie Beach in the … [Read more...] about Printing an Image for the Cycle Tour
