Eastern Province Rugby Logo

The Eastern Province Kings have lost flank Stefan Willemse for the rest of the season following an injury to his AC joint [shoulder] during the game against the Cell C Sharks in Durban on Saturday. The medical team also reported that Darron Nell was battling with a calf strain and that there was a fifty fifty chance that he would be available for selection. The Kings are also without the services of regular hooker, Edgar Marutlulle and prop Lizo Gqoboka, both of whom are also battling … [Read more...] about AC Joint injuries abound

EP Kings Boet Erasmus

Finding ourselves with a few hours in hand the Longhair and I popped in to see the old Boet Erasmus Stadium. In a nod to the millions poured into the stadium and rugby we must also remember that the stadium was renamed Telkom Park. I am sure that you will agree with me, though that 'Battle of the Boet' has a better ring to it than 'Battle of the Telkom' or even 'Battle of the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium'! Much like our present Currie Cup dreams the old Boet Erasmus Stadium lies in tatters as … [Read more...] about Currie Cup Log – Read it and weep

Durban - Flyhalf Lionel Cronje scored 23 points as the Sharks claimed a 53-24 victory over the Eastern Province Kings in their Currie Cup encounter at Kings Park in Durban on Saturday afternoon. The hosts ran in seven tries, including two for Paul Jordaan, with the visitors replying with three tries of their own. However, the quality of the defending champions proved too much for the Eastern Cape outfit as they remained without a win after eight games. The win for the Sharks kept them … [Read more...] about EP Kings savaged by Sharks

Watch the Free State Cheetahs points scored against EP Kings

22 September 2014 By Port Elizabethan

Willie Du Plessis

The Premier Division Currie Cup game played between the EP Kings and Free State Cheetahs in Port Elizabeth at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday 20 September was not televised. SO I took one for the Cheetahs team and placed my GoPro on the field to record the Cheetahs points scored. Free State opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Cheetahs flyhalf Willie Du Plessis slotted a lengthy, diagonal penalty. Fifteen minutes into play, Du Plessis was at it again converting … [Read more...] about Watch the Free State Cheetahs points scored against EP Kings

Nick Mallett on EP Kings

21 September 2014 By Port Elizabethan

Nick Mallett Irie

Former Springbok Coach, Nick Mallett spoke at the recent Leadership Conference 2014 hosted by Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber. I received his permission to GoPro his presentation before "Mr Tell it like it is" went on stage we had a chat about the state of rugby and it was refreshing to hear him echo some of my thoughts around transformation - especially that we have started 20 years too late and that any players of colour that we develop are just 'snatched away' from the cradle of black … [Read more...] about Nick Mallett on EP Kings

I confess I camped on the Cheetahs tryline

21 September 2014 By Alan Straton

Willie Du Plessis

Earlier in the week the Longhair and I visited the home of rugby in Port Elizabeth - Boet Erasmus. It will always be the Boet to me. The field is overgrown and we actually saw someone park his 4x4 in the middle of the main field and take photographs of it - presumably to prove to his wife that he WAS in the bush and not having an affair. Who knows? Broken dreams litter that once hallowed ground and one can only wonder that should our Kings (Queens) continue on their losing path maybe, one day … [Read more...] about I confess I camped on the Cheetahs tryline

Do or die for Kings – which do YOU think?

12 September 2014 By Alan Straton

Eastern Province Rugby Logo

In the Blue Bulls vs EP Kings game at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday, 11 September 2014, the Kings started the game playing left to right - according to pundits and old rugby experts playing left to right is always a good sign. But that also depends on your perspective, in this case I will say that he side that the media are on is the most important so left to right it is and shall stay so. Seven minutes in with the scores level at 0-0 the EP Kings, after dominating play and … [Read more...] about Do or die for Kings – which do YOU think?
