The number 41 crops up for the EP Kings again

30 August 2014 By Alan Straton

Eastern Province Rugby Logo

Forgive me for being cynical ..... The search for the crowd (official attendance 9034) began again on Saturday 30 August at the EP Kings vs Golden Lions rugby match played in Port Elizabeth's Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. It is with a heavy heart that I beg for a winning team - the years of being positive about Eastern Province Rugby are beginning to take their toll on all the scribes who I have been attending rugby matches with since the days of the Boet Erasmus Stadium. We have all flown … [Read more...] about The number 41 crops up for the EP Kings again

Will Alan get dinner?

29 August 2014 By Port Elizabethan

At the recent press conference announcing Port Elizabeth's double header of the EP Kings vs the Lions and Chippa United vs Ajax I asked Charl and Shooz if they would care to lay a friendly bet over which local sides were going to win. Charl said that whoever's side lost would do the Spring swim without a wet suit and Shooz offfered me Dinner if Chippa lost - keep checking out http://mype.co.za to see if I got dinner and where we went! http://youtu.be/pTGE4aBdUUc Creator: mypedotcoza Posted to … [Read more...] about Will Alan get dinner?

EP Kings and Chippa United

The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium presents a back-to-back dose of PSL and Currie Cup action this weekend. Residents of Nelson Mandela Bay are in line for another sporting feast on Friday and Saturday nights, as Chippa United and the EP Kings come together for the second time in the month of August for a double header. Preparations are taking place on all fronts - for fans, the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and the city - but the most important groundwork is being done by Chippa United and the EP … [Read more...] about Double Sporting Benefit for PE

Head Coach Carlos Spencer said they had not yet finalised who the captain would be, what with Luke Watson who is expected to be out for the next four weeks following a concussion sustained during the game between the EP Kings and the Vodacom Blue Bulls at Loftus on Saturday. Three matches down and only one point for the EP Kings

24 August 2014 By Alan Straton

Eastern Province Rugby Logo

The EP Kings travelled to Pretoria for a game against the Blue Bulls on Saturday 23 August. Going into the game, the Blue Bulls and the EP Kings occupied the bottom two spots on the Absa Currie Cup Premier Division log. After a spanking from third placed Golden Lions the week before the men in the black and red hoops could be forgiven for a feeling of trepidation for their second trip up north to face a wily foe with deeper pockets and depth of experience at this level. The SMS and Social … [Read more...] about Three matches down and only one point for the EP Kings

EP Kings Injury Update

18 August 2014 By Alan Straton

Eastern Province Rugby Logo

Despite losing 60-19 against the Golden Lions on Saturday, the EP Kings came through the game against the Xerox Golden Lions relatively unscathed, despite earlier concerns that CJ van der Linde may have torn his calf muscle towards the end of the game. At practice this afternoon it was confirmed that van der Linde had sustained a calf strain and would not be available for selection this week, and would be going for scans, but that the injury did not appear to be as severe as previously … [Read more...] about EP Kings Injury Update

41 Points separated the EP Kings and Golden Lions

17 August 2014 By Alan Straton

Eastern Province Rugby Logo

It was with a sense of trepidation that I opened the release from the EP Kings Golden Lions Currie Cup game played on Saturday 16 August at Ellis Park in Johannesburg. I confess that I am a coward who was afraid to watch the game - afraid of witnessing a huge drubbing of a team that I firmly believe needs to catch a break. Alas and alack all we seem to be doing every new season is 'start again'. The EP Kings seem to be caught in a vicious downward spiral of no sponsor, no continuity and no … [Read more...] about 41 Points separated the EP Kings and Golden Lions

There were heart stopping moments for 20 564 spectators at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Friday night in the EP Kings historical first game in the Premier Currie Cup competition in 12 years as they watched Western Province captain, Juan de Jongh, sail over the EP tryline in the second minute of the game. 10 June 2014 By Alan Straton

EP Kings Wales

A chilly Port Elizabeth welcomed the Welsh team to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on 10 June 2014 at 19h00 for their clash against the EP Kings. Wales won the kick off and playing from South to North immediately stamped their authority on the game chalking up 14 points in the first 20 minutes before The Kings found their legs. Wales' first try came from number 7, Josh Turnbull off of a rolling maul - converted by James Hook. Four minutes later Cory Allen (13) crossed the line - an easy … [Read more...] about EP Kings vs Wales
