The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium presents a back-to-back dose of PSL and Currie Cup action this weekend.
Residents of Nelson Mandela Bay are in line for another sporting feast on Friday and Saturday nights, as Chippa United and the EP Kings come together for the second time in the month of August for a double header.
Preparations are taking place on all fronts – for fans, the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and the city – but the most important groundwork is being done by Chippa United and the EP Kings as they ready themselves to take on Ajax Cape Town and the Xerox Lions.
Chippa United will kick-start the action packed weekend on Friday at 8pm.
“Both Chippa United and Ajax Cape Town have played some excellent football in their past matches and have produced incredible quality and skill during their performances. They have shown that they will bothbe a force to be reckoned with. Fans should not abandon their traditional teams but should support the Bay-based outfits against visiting teams,” said Thabiso Shooz Mekuto, COO of Chippa United. “Fans are urged to don their blue and white on Friday in support of soccer and support the Kings by wearing red and black.”
Less than 24 hours after the soccer, the EP Kings will tackle the Xerox Lions on Saturday at 7pm. The Nelson Mandela Bay stadium operator, Access Management, said they were thrilled to host another sports full weekend.
“This is always what we set out to do and for it to finally be a reality is just awesome, not only for us and the teams, but also for the people of the city,” said Chantal Du Pisani, CEO of Access Management.
“Through our two anchor tenants, Chippa United and the EP Kings, we are happy to be able to deliver entertaining sports across two major popular South African sporting codes, both soccer and rugby.
“Sports fanatics are urged to come in their numbers, cheer and show support to the teams and fill up the stands.”
EP Kings chief executive Charl Crous said he was impressed with the activity now underway at the stadium: “It’s exciting for the development of both rugby and soccer in the city and we are excited to share the pitch with Chippa.
“It’s great that the stadium is being utilised more often and is becoming a hub of sport and recreational activities for the residents of Nelson Mandela Bay and surrounds to enjoy,” he said.
Du Pisani added that there are also major soccer and rugby matches and tournaments lined up for the remainder of the year. “Without a doubt, the stadium is becoming a value-adding asset to the city through events like these,” she said.
Crous and Mekuto also agreed to a dare – if they lose this weekend – to both swim in the Spring Swim on Monday morning. Tickets for both matches are available at any Shoprite, Checkers and Computicket outlet or directly from the stadium.
And MyPE has a side bet on with Chippa United COO, Thabiso Shooz Mekuto if Chippa lose to Ajax on Friday then Shooz will take Alan to dinner – or somrting along thos lines – check out the video to see Charl and Shooz confirm their bets.
