27 February 2018 By Alan Straton

After a long battle between the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) and the Algoa Bay Yacht Club (ABYC) which culminated in an eviction order application brought by TNPA againsts ABYC it appears that the ABYC have met the end of the road today. At the Bird Street High Court this morning the application for a stay of eviction by the 60 year old sailing club, ABYC, against the TNPA was dismissed with costs. Writing on the ABYC Facebook Page Club Commodore Alan Straton said; "Practically … [Read more...] about ABYC Evicted

ABYC – Not Just a Club: The Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) released a media statement on Saturday 17 February 2018 stating that the Algoa Bay Yacht Club (ABYC) must move out of premises that the nearly 60 year-old club occupies within the Port of Port Elizabeth. The dispute centres around rental, non-payment of rental, assessment of rental far beyond the financial means of ABYC as a voluntary body and irregular rental increases. As in all disputes of this nature the cold hard facts are … [Read more...] about ABYC – Not Just a Club

The news about the Algoa Bay Yacht Club's pending 'eviction' first came to ABYC members attention at 7:00 am during a news broadcast by Algoa FM. 18 February 2018 By Alan Straton

The Algoa Bay Yacht Club is a voluntary sporting body based within the Port of Port Elizabeth. Established in 1959 the sole reason for ABYC's existence is to 'Foster an Interest in Sailing'. Run by volunteers the club has hosted many regattas and visiting yachtsmen in support of Nelson Mandela Bay's quest to become the Watersport Capital. On Saturday 17 February at 12:58 the TNPA released a press statement on the "impending eviction of the Algoa Bay Yacht Club" (see below for the verbatim … [Read more...] about ABYC Provides Clarity and Answers to TNPA’s Public ‘Declaration of Eviction’

7 February 2018 By Alan Straton

Rajesh Dana

With reference to Point number 5 below MyPE can report that the first engagement with key stakeholders took place on Tuesday 1 February 2018 at the Algoa Bay Yacht Club in the Port of Port Elizabeth. Discussions were 'robust, fruitful and engaging' with TNPA actively seeking solutions to the manganese ore dust problem from stakeholders. Could the recent ban on Plastic Straws by the Algoa Bay Yacht Club be too little too late? Microplastic particles have been found in the oceans close to Antarctica, data collected during the Volvo Ocean Race has revealed. The new data comes from the Volvo Ocean Race Science Programme, funded by Volvo Cars. Scientists analysed water samples, gathered at points during Leg 2 of the Race, between Lisbon and Cape Town and Leg 3 from Cape Town to Melbourne. Plastic Straw Alternatives to Excite and Amaze You

21 January 2018 By Alan Straton

Algoa Bay Yacht Club

Plastic Straws now appear to be environmental enemy number one as evidenced by the Algoa Bay Yacht Club declaring their precinct in the Port of Port Elizabeth 'Plastic Straw' free and with reports of other restaurants and establishments planning to go the same route towards a plastic free environment. Alternatives do exist that are made from bio-degradable items such as seaweed, coconut palm leaves and even flour. The spectre of now only being able to stir one's drink with a digit or … [Read more...] about Plastic Straw Alternatives to Excite and Amaze You
