Where is the outrage PEople?
Siphamandla Choma, a learner at Manyano Primary School in Mpumalanga, was left paralysed after allegedly being assaulted by his principal in November last year and sadly died on Human Rights Day 21 March as a result of his injuries. (See: SACE must account for fatal school assault for more info)
On Sunday 19 March a Man verbally abused a Woman in a Spur (one more reason for the Spur Group to rein back on the sugar they feed those kids and their parents). See any Facebook or Twitter page near you for the stream of rage being heaped upon South Africans.
Both are heinous acts.
In terms of time in jail the #Spur outrage is deafening in comparison to the almost media only comments on the death of 14-year-old #SiphamandlaChoma allegedly by the school principal.
BUT, surely people should be more outraged at an actual death rather than verbal abuse. Even our law recognises that people who kill other people, especially a child entrusted to their care, spend a lot more time in jail than those convicted of verbal abuse.

My sentiments exactly. Just this morning I was listening to a woman from Elderado Park, who has been struggling for years trying to eradicate drugs etc from the area. The community MURDERED a boy in clear view of everyone including children as young as 6 – how much social media attention does it get – not much at all. There are 2 observations, incidents like that happen in townships across the country daily, so no hype. Secondly, the crime is against one race and doesn’t include a white face, so can’t be racism and the story holds no hype – just another boy, stuck in a crime ridden community. Am so sick of the rubbish which we blow up into BIG news. SA certainly has some very sad realities.
