Urgent: Flooding and Road Conditions in Kwazakhele Precinct
Reports from D-Shift members and POP, W/O Fourie, indicate severe flooding on entrance and exit roads. Stormwater pipe lids have been uplifted due to water pressure.
Exercise caution when using the following affected roads:

- Daku Road(off Struanway Road, towards Njoli Road)

ELECTRICITY DISRUPTIONS ACROSS THE METRO – Tuesday, 22 October 2024.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality wishes to inform residents that at Motherwell/A14, an 11kV circuit breaker tripped affecting Motherwell NU 1, NU 2 and surrounding areas.
A 66kV circuit breaker at Swartkops/Kwaford substation has tripped. This has caused a loss of power supply at General Tyre, Ford 1 and 2, Straundale, Straunway and Trident Steel. The 22kV and Kwaford 11kV feeders are also affecting New Brighton, Seysi and surrounding areas.
At Tolgate substation in Kariega, Transformer 2 and Transformer 3, multiple circuit breakers have tripped causing a loss of power at Tolgate, Cuyler, Van Riebeek, Protea, Market Square,Kamesh, Mosel, Lower Cannon, Algoa Road and surrounding areas.
Teams have been contacted for fault finding however, due to the inclement weather, they will apply safety precaution measures which may prolong power outages.

Following the heavy rain that started yesterday, 21 October 2024, the ares below have been severely affected by localised flooding.
- Ibhayi: Dongweni area, Mavuso Road, Mase Steet, Meke Street,Boxer in Njoli, Veeplaas, Nkanini, Cleary Park, Enkanini, Kiwane, Sharpville and Masakhane.
- Motherwell: Steve Tshwete Village, Khayelitsha, Shukushukuma, Nomakanjani, Young Park Informal Settlement (NU8), Vukani, Mjondolo and Ikamvelihle.
- Northern Areas: Misssionvale, Qunu, Vaastrap and Riemvasmaak.
- Kariega: Lapland, Jubilee Park (Die Gaat), Dr. Braun. Willow Dam is also currently overflowing.
As a relief measure, residents have been moved to Sunshine School, Missionvale Care Centre and the UCC Church. NMBM’s Disaster Management Directorate will be moving residents from Laapland to Tambo Hall, residents from Veeplaas and Soweto will be moved to Veeplaas Community Hall and residents from Soweto and Salamntu will be moved to Soweto Community Hall. Residents will be provided with mattresses, blankets and soup whilst mop up operations continue. Gift of the Givers, Shoprite, NHC Nama Royal House, Al-Imdaad Foundation and SASCO Pepsi Co have donated warm meals that will go to residents who have been moved to the evacuation halls.
Motorists are urged to avoid the roads below and remain vigilant when driving.

MEC ZOLILE WILLIAMS TO VISIT THE FLOOD STRICKEN AREAS IN NELSON MANDELA BAY METRO MUNICIPALITY: 22 OCT 2024:
Following the torrential rains that have ravaged parts of the Eastern Cape, particularly the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in Kariega, the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Zolile Williams will today pay a visit to the floods stricken areas in Nelson Mandela Bay Metro especially in Kariega to offer assistance to the evacuated families
- The MEC’s visit will commence at eDongweni at Lillian Ngoyi where he will have a meeting with the Disaster Management teams,
- The MEC will from there proceed to Veeplaas Community Hall to meet with the evacuated flood victims to provide the affected families with the basic essentials namely; warm food, soup, mattresses, duvets, warm clothing, toiletries, and blankets.
- The MEC will then proceed to Kariega Hall where he will meet with the affected families and provide psycho-social support.
