Recyle Cans, Paper, Glass and Plastic in ONE Spot

17 October 2011 By Alan Straton

As committed as the Longhair and I are to recycling as much as we can it it a tad stressful to have to ride to different recycling spots to get rid of our junk. What makes it worse is when the, especially, glass recycling containers are moved at little or no notice. Although, it is a great stress reliever to SMASH those bottles which could be why people complain.

working in conjunction with Nampak Recycling, the Summerstrand Total Garage in Admiralty Way is the first petrol station in Port Elizabeth to organise a recycling initiative for the community AND which takes all the major recycling materials.

What can be recycled?

  • Cans: Cold drink & beer cans, food tins, metal lids of glass jars, aluminum foil & foil packaging, paint tins & aerosol cans.
  • Glass: Beverage bottles, food jars such as tomato sauce, jam & mayonnaise bottles. (The following CANNOT be recycled: Drinking glasses, light bulbs, Pyrex, ceramics (Plates)
  • Paper: White office paper, magazines & books newspaper, cardboard. (The following CANNOT be recycled: Laminated or waxy paper, punch confetti, carbon paper, stickers)
  • Plastics: Ice cream containers, milk containers, fabric softener containers, plastic bags, cling wrap. (The following CANNOT be recycled: Fruit juice & milk containers (Tetrapak) that appear to be made from paper, because they are lined with aluminum foil and plastic)

The earth’s resources are not infinite so we shouldn’t waste them.

Now, if only someone would erect a similar set of bins in the Parsons Hill area I might get even more excited than Bryce Lawrence checking his bank account!

For more information call 0860 111 111.

Recycle
Separate your refuse as per the listed items and do your bit for the environment by dropping your sorted waste in the conveniently marked bins.

Thanks to Ward 5’s Jeremy.
