The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is walking the talk when it comes to its commitment to keep the City clean. More than 40 co-operatives have been appointed to assist in cleaning the City. This will augment that work that is done by the Municipal Waste Management sub-directorate.
To strengthen the fight against waste, more than 40 million rand has been budgeted for this programme. The work of the cooperatives will also assist the Municipality to access some of the areas that are not easy to access through waste collection vehicles. They will also assist the Municipality with awareness programmes under the Cleaning and Greening programme.
The launch of this programme takes place on Monday at the the Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton, where the cooperatives will be officially inducted. A cleaning programme will be conducted at some of the illegal dumping sites of New Brighton.
