Port Elizabeth is Booming With Talent

25 June 2012 By Alan Straton

Creative talent is finding a new home in Port Elizabeth and the Eastern Cape. On the 1st of June 2012 Wayne Harrison officially stepped in as the new Managing Director of the Boomtown Strategic Brand Agency as founder Neil Hart stepped up as chairman focussing on the strategic business decisions.

Harrison, who has a long list of credentials having worked in the South African advertising industry since 1989 gaining experience in small, award-winning specialised brand agencies as well as large global networks, is set to combine his experience with the agency’s skill to create nationally recognised and award-winning campaigns. “Port Elizabeth has incredible potential and I was attracted to Boomtown as one of the powerful up-and-coming agencies who are not only playing on a national field, but are adding to the vision of the city with their investment in the area and forward thinking growth potential,” said Harrison.

Harrison has worked on brands such as Volkswagen South Africa, Old Mutual, Coca-Cola, Nestlé, South African Breweries and Pam Golding Property Group to name a few. Hand-picked to head up the Ogilvy operations in Namibai from 2009 to 2011, Harrison has also worked as Creative Director at Primaplus and Creative Director at Pam Golding Property Group to name a few. He has won 4 international and several national creative awards, while recently winning 13 new business pitches over just 14 months.

“Boomtown has already managed to win three gold awards and the overall Inkosi award, the top award of the night, at the Assegai Integrated Marketing Awards for effective direct marketing campaigns. I look forward to working towards putting both Boomtown as a Port Elizabeth agency and our clients’ brands on the map,” added Harrison.

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
