Police in Algoa Park are seeking the assistance of the public in tracing a Port Elizabeth fisherman suspected to be missing in Maputo. According to police information, it is alleged that Cornelius Johannes Van Der Westhuizen (59 years) left Port Elizabeth about year ago to work on the fishing boats at Emapum Fishery at the Maputo harbour in Mozambique.

Up until the 30 November 2015, he was in contact with his wife, Renee Van Der Westhuizen. His contract expired on the 30 November 2015 and he was due back in Port Elizabeth a few days later. Since then, his wife has lost all communication with him.

The Van Der Westhuizens reside in Marais Township, Sidwell in Port Elizabeth.

Anyone who may know any information about the whereabouts of Cornelius Van der Westhuizen is asked to contact Cst Ashron Bergman at SAPS Algoa Park on 041 4091024 or 074 908 9919 or Renee Van Der Westhuizen on 0783241764/0837741350 or Felicia (his sister) on 0735710662

UPDATE: The “missing” Port Elizabeth fisherman who worked on fishing boats in Maputo has been found safe.

Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said that 59-year old Cornelius Johannes Van Der Westhuizen made contact with his wife Renee on Wednesday evening, the same day the police had issued an alert on his missing status.

Naidu said it was alleged that Van Der Westhuizen left Port Elizabeth about a year ago to work on the fishing boats at Emapum Fishery at the Maputo Harbour in Mozambique.
