Port Elizabeth football club Hearts FC will be “#smashingit” in an attempt to take more than 2000 consecutive penalties to raise funds for the club and charity.
The world record attempt will take place in the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on November 12 from 9am until 10pm.
“We have decided to attempt to break the world record for the most consecutive penalties. There are two main record authorities namely Guinness World Records and Record Setter,”says Hearts FC chairman Stephen Morgan.
“We aim to smash every record we know of for consecutive penalties. As such, we have created a campaign called #smashingit,” says Morgan.
On hand to witness the event – and to kick some penalties themselves – will be Algoa FM DJs Kaycee Rossouw, Daron Mann and Vinny Nogemane. The presenters will emcee with KayCee from 9am-3pm, Daron from 1-2pm, and Vinny from 3-6pm. Between 2 and 3pm Daron and KayCee will challenge each other to a penalty shootout.
The radio station is supporting the record attempt as part of its community outreach, according to marketing manager Toinette Koumpan.
To qualify to be part of a team that smashes two world records go to www.smashingit.org to register. Thanks to headline sponsor City of Champions as well as various other corporate and local sponsors, taking a penalty will be completely free of charge.
“Our heart is that this event is for everyone! This is a good news event for the City. We want to see the whole family, Moms, Dads, Grannies, Grandpa’s, and lots of kids, all registering to have a shot” commented Morgan.
The organisers are aiming to completely smash previous records and believe they can take as many as 2700 penalties on the 12th November. All registrations will go into a lottery type system and successful participants will be notified via email or sms. People who have registered and are not chosen are still encouraged to come and support. There will be plenty to do and see on the day of the event.
“Funds raised will go towards Hearts FC’s new facilities which is a critical building block to our future plans of impacting soccer in the region in a positive way! We have a dream to see home grown professional football built and supported by the community in the Bay,” says Morgan
Hearts FC is a rapidly growing local Football club currently situated in Glendinningvale, Port Elizabeth.
It has Junior, Senior, Ladies and over 35 teams all playing in the Port Elizabeth Football Association leagues.
