The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will officially open the Cradock Four Memorial Site at the Coega Vulindlela Village on Friday, May 6, 2011 from 10:00.
The establishment of this site is in line with the Municipal Integrated Development Plan which emphasizes the development of heritage sites that depicts the historical heritage of the city.
The Minister of Arts and Culture, Paul Mashatile, Eastern Cape MEC for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Xoliswa Tom and Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Zanoxolo Wayile together with family members of the four fallen struggle heroes as well as other dignitaries are expected to attend the event.
The creation of the site is a collective recognition of the sacrifices of late Matthew Goniwe, Fort Calata, Sparrow Mkonto and Sicelo Mhlauli who were abducted and murdered by the apartheid security police in 1985, near Bluewater Bay.
