The lead up to the elimination of the previous coalition government in Nelson Mandela Bay was precipitated by the EFF calling for the removel of Deputy Mayor Khusta Jack on flimsy evidence that he was ‘doing business with the city whilst being a councillor’.
Those allegations were proven to be incorrect and rubbished by the Attorney General in two findings.
Nevertheless the Motion of No Confidence proceeded in council last week on Friday and a new ANC led coalition government assumed the reins of power.
At the time I reported that the real problem lay with the admin structures within the municipality and not with Jack himself. This was later proven by the AG but too late it seems to have saved the good work being done by Odedndaal and Jack in getting the City working again.
Today, the EFF in Nelson Mandela Bay called for the immediate reignation of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropole City Manager, Noxolo Nqwazi on the basis of the findings against her by the Special Investigative Unit (SIU) of corruption and fraud and her subsequent arrest by the Hawks.
The EFF needs to remember that Nqwazi has been accused but NOT found guilty and that, unfortunately, we in SOuth Africa have a history of accused people in government staying in their jobs or being paid to stay at home for extended lengths of time as we wait for the wheels of justice to start up and turn.
The basis of the SIU allegations against Nqwazi are that she irregularly issued a procurment order to a business outside of the Eastern Cape to provide 2000 toilets to informal settlements under the pretence of emergency [rocurement os provided bythe COVID-19 emergency procurement regulations.
The EFF Says that only 200 of the toilets from the R24.6 Million order were delivered.
Now, contrary to what the whole city is saying – we need to remember that the EFF is NOT a judicial or inverstigative body with executive powers to determine a person’s guilt or innocence.
As such we are ‘stuck’ with someone that the EFF says is guilty and will have to stay so until a court of law pronounces on whether Noxolo Nqwazi is guilty or not. At that time action can be taken against her.
The EFF would be well reminded that they proceeded against Jack PRESUMING that he was guilty when the evidence was right in front of them proving that their allegations were incorrect. In fact if I could ferret that information out then surely the EFF with certain rights as officials would have been able to do the same.
BUT, they did not – choosing rather to go after the man without evidence.
The Bottom Line: Wait for the Wheels of Justice to turn and then be like te avenging angel/demon if Noxolo is found guilty. BUT, if she is found innocent then be prepared to grovel in the ground whilst asking for forgiveness.
And the MUD reference? This smacks of the ANC getting their new found coalition partners to do their dirty work to get rid of the City Manager!
