On Again – Chippa United to play in Home of Legends Cup

10 November 2024 By NMB Communications

Subsequent to numerous statements that have been issued in the public domain, such statements pertaining to the withdrawal of Chippa United Football Club from the Home of Legends Cup, a meeting of minds was held between the Chairman of Chippa United, Siviwe Mpengesi along with the Mandela Bay Development Agency Chief Executive Officer, Anele Qaba and relevant officials from both entities, to discuss and provide clarity on concerns raised and to find amicable solutions in order to charter a way forward and find synergies thereof.

Following these aforementioned discussions, it is with great pleasure to announce that the engagement session was fruitful and conducted professionally which led to both parties finding each other in reaching a consensus on the way forward.

Having reached consensus and cleared all manner of allegations made publicly against the Mandela Bay Development Agency and its CEO, and having received an apology thereof from the Chippa United Football Club, it was resolved that the club should be reintegrated into the Home of Legends Cup Tournament which will allow them full participation to the football festivities.

The entity would like to express its sincere appreciation to the Chairman of Chippa United for his outmost professional conduct and his expeditious approach in dealing with the matter.

In the same token, the MBDA extends its gratitude and appreciation to Cape Town City Football Club for their willingness and agreement to participate in the Home of Legends Cup and their acceptance in allowing Chippa United FC to return to form part of the tournament. The manner in which the club responded to the clarion call of participating in this competition is both commendable and exemplary.

Lastly, the MBDA in conjunction with the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium looks forward to hosting exhilarating cup football and a musical element featuring no less than six national artists, on the 16th of November 2024 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. Join us in a not to be missed opportunity to witness the giants of South African football competing for the inaugural Home of Legends Cup.

We can’t wait to see the Chilli Boys in action and bringing in the heat to the Bay come the 16th November 2024.
