OLLI gets support wheels

19 November 2015 By Alan Straton

The One Land Love It Expedition 2015 (OLLI) team took delivery of their support vehicle from Avis Van Rental on Thursday 19 November 2015 at the newly renovated Shark Rock Pier in Port Elizabeth.

Most cyclists start out with support wheels. Wayne Bolton, who is cycling 6000km in 80 days between all 19 of South Africa’s National Parks, was very excited to see his support team be given the vehicle from Avis Van Rental: “Seeing some of South Africa’s top companies supporting this expedition and our efforts to raise funds for saving our iconic national heritage is such an affirmation of our slogan of “#JointCustody. We all have a responsibility to do something. Some can afford big gestures, some small; ordinary people can make a difference as part of a team!”

The leader of the support team is Mr Bolton’s wife, Nikki. She will be joined at various stages by her father and father-in-law and children. “We are really just an ordinary family who wanted to do make a small difference. The way this expedition has escalated and the support it has garnered has totally blown me away. Now I need to learn to tow a trailer!”

All funds raised are going to two beneficiaries. The first is the South African National Parks Honorary Rangers who will be using your donation to assist the SANParks rangers with anti-poaching equipment. These rangers are doing a marvellous job in very trying circumstances, especially in the border parks such as Kruger National Park. Fayroush Ludick, Regional Communications Manager for the Eastern Cape parks wished the OLLI team all the best for their adventure. “Not all of us can go on an adventure. We are excited that you are from Port Elizabeth and represent especially Addo Elephant National Park, where you will be ending. We will be welcoming you home with Valentine’s hearts in February.”

The CEO of Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism, Mandlekazi Skefile, had similar words of encouragement: “Taking responsible action to protect our tourism resources is a privelage that each person has. It is a pleasure to be associated with a humble, ordinary person and his family that promote our natural resources. We will also welcome you back with love in February. Good luck, Wayne.”

To show your support for #JointCustody, you can donate to rearing orphaned baby rhino’s or to anti-poaching initiatives in SANParks, go to www.oneland.co.za or email nikki@oneland.co.za for more information.
