Over the past few years, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has been working on the following drought intervention schemes:
- Pressure management (to reduce the amount of water lost through leaks)
- Boreholes, sunk in strategic areas
- Investigations into the feasibility and affordability of desalination
- Rezoning areas, to relieve the demand on dams that have been drained
- Upgrading the Nooitgedagt Low Level Scheme pipeline to bring water from the Gariep/Orange River.
