The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is ready to host thousands of holiday-makers, visitors, family members and business people who will descend to Delight in Summer and get an experience of a life-time.
Like Summer Season 2016/17, where the City recorded zero incidents of death or violence on our beaches and at our recreational facilities, this year’s Summer Season has again put its emphasis on safety and delivering world-class service in all corners of the City, Port Elizabeth, Uitenhage, Despatch and surrounding areas.
The following areas will be a priority:
- traffic control,
- drinking and driving
- vehicle and driver fitness
- drinking at beaches
- illegal dumping
- and general lawlessness
Drivers, passengers and residents in general are warned not to be found on the wrong side of the law, as Law Enforcement Officers will be all out. Joint operations by the Metro Police, South African Police Services and Traffic Services will cover all corners of Nelson Mandela Bay, making sure that residents, visitors and holiday makers are safe during this period.
Today the Executive Mayor, Athol Trollip, will officially open the Summer Season at the Hobie Beach which will be the start of a bumper-to-bumper season of fun and family bonding and creation of special memories.
Nelson Mandela Bay continues to call on everyone to SAVE WATER – “two minute” showers are but one way, conserve water as much as possible: Nelson Mandela Bay is a drought area.
Swimming pools that will be open are:
- Despatch
- Uitenhage
- High Street
- Gelvandale
- Westering
- Middle pool in westering
- Zwide
- Wells Estate
- Schauderville
- Motherwell
