Brace Yourself for a Transnet Strike

Yesterday, Transnet SOC Limited (“Transnet”) presented a revised and improved wage offer to its recognised labour unions – the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) and the United National Transport Union (UNTU).

Transnet believes that the offer provides a win-win solution and strikes a balance between affordability for the company and full appreciation of the rising cost pressures faced by employees.

The unions have just confirmed that they reject the revised offer and will be embarking on strike action. We are committed to continue discussions with the unions, including at the CCMA for conciliation and/or picketing/strike rules negotiation and agreement. The latter processes as required by law have not been satisfied hence the organisation reserves its legal rights in this respect.

We want to assure you that we are doing everything possible to avert strike action and will continue to provide further updates as we proceed. We wish to thank you for your patience and support thus far.
