New Primary Banker for NMB

18 October 2012 By NMB Communications

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s appointment of Absa Bank Limited (Absa) as its primary banker is indicative of a consumer orientated agenda to ultimately ensure more streamlined services to the residents of Nelson Mandela Bay, stated Portfolio Chairperson for Budget and Treasury Cllr Balu Naran on behalf of Executive Mayor Zanoxolo Wayile.

“We are now in the process of working with the community to seamlessly change from one service provider to another from 1 November 2012. It should be noted that this is the outcome of open and transparent tendering and procurement processes. We have accepted the challenge of working non-stop to communicate on different platforms with our consumers to ensure ease of compliance,” he added.

Nelson Mandela Bay residents, who have been paying their municipal account at Standard Bank, must in future pay their municipal account at any Absa branch and use their municipal account number as reference.

“We are pleased to be playing a role in assisting the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to achieve its set priorities and reach its economic development goals. We are looking forward to growing this partnership and strengthening our presence in the Province through the provision of innovative financial solutions,” stated Temi Ofong, head of Corporate Banking at Absa Capital.

Residents who pay their accounts by means of a stop-order deducted by their employer must inform their employer of the change in bank account and request them to use the Absa account.

Residents paying their municipal account via the internet must please amend their beneficiary details as required.

The Absa account to be utilized for the abovementioned categories is as follows:

  • Account beneficiary: Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality
  • Absa current account
  • Account number: 40-7953-3842
  • Branch Code: 632005

Residents paying their municipal accounts by debit order and Integrated Voice Response (IVR) will not be required to take any action, as the Municipality will load the information onto the new bank accounts.

Traffic fines can be paid into the following Absa bank account:

  • Account beneficiary: Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality
  • Absa current account
  • Account number: 40-7953-3826
  • Branch Code: 632005

Editor’s Notes: <sarcastic font>Yeah! – I suppose that Capitec or Steve or FNB or Nedbank or the other banks turned us down as we don’t seem to have much money in the bank to earn interest on.</sarcastic font>
