On Saturday 3 December 2011, a handful of Nelson Mandela Bay Scouts and friends braved the rainy weather to participate in the Sea Pledge Fun Day at Pollock Beach, organised by SST (Sustainable Sea Trust), SAMREC and SEAC.
The Sea Pledge crusade, initiated by SST, is a drive to educate the public to look after our coastlines. The day was planned to coincide with the COP 17 conference, currently happening in Durban.
The Scouts witnessed rehabilitated penguins being released back to their natural habitat and put shoulder to the wheel to clean up a serious stretch of beach. They all made their pledge to decrease their (carbon) footprint and increase their (action) handprint! Everyone got down and dirty (sandy) to build a sand sculpture to close off this beach morning.
