From Monday, 18 April 2016 the municipality Waste Management Sub-directorate will operate a weekely collection in all wards. This promise was made by the Executive Mayor Danny Jordaan when he took office in May last year. He promised the people of Nelson Mandela Bay that their complaints about poor refuse collection programme will soon be a thing of the past. The Waste Management Sub-directorate was given a strict instruction to strengthen its systems and deliver on weekly collection and awareness campaigns against illegal dumping. For the past 10 months they have been working around the clock to make sure that all wards receive a reliable weekly collection.
From today, Uitenhage and Despatch will also receive a weekly collection, which will actually mean the whole Nelson Mandela Bay is covered. However Nelson Mandela Bay Public Health Portfolio Chairman Joy Seale said the municipality cannot win the battle of cleaning the City alone. “Up until our people understand that the only way we can keep the City clean is when they work the us. Now that we have covered the whole City in terms of collection, it is now up to our people to make sure that they cooperate with our refuse collection officials. We want to claim back the glory when the City used to win awards for cleanliness. That can be done, as long as we work together,” said Councillor Seale.
Councillor Seale urges residents to take out their refuse at the specified time and date.
The weekly collection schedule is as follows:
- MONDAYS: Kamesh phase 2, 3, Tiryville and Rosedale, KwaNobuhle Area 04, Part Area 01, 02 and 03
