Municipality hands over 220 title deeds to Kuyga Community

Kuyga Deeds Athol TrollipA total of 220 families in Kuyga have had their dignity restored as they were handed title deeds for their low cost housing by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality today.

This forms part of the municipality’s consolidated effort in restoring people’s dignity as the housing beneficiary list has over the years been rigged with fraudulent activities.

Speaking at the handover, Executive Mayor Athol Trollip emphasised the importance of restoring people’s dignity through an open process of title deeds handover.

“A title deed removes all the complexities that come with living in a house where ownership is often a cause for conflict. Our intention is to handover the house, key and title deed to our people so that the rightful owner can live peacefully, be able to maintain their own home and enjoy the freedom of ownership,” Mayor Trollip said.

This follows an audit process that the municipality carried out to ascertain if the people who currently live in the targeted properties were indeed rightful owners. This was done to prevent possible fraudulent activities.

The handover comes on the back of a similar event in Tiryville, in Uitenhage where the Municipality handed over 103 title deeds to the rightful owners. This forms part of the Administration’s effort to restore dignity to communities through open and fair governance.

This government is committed to building a Metro based on the values of freedom, fairness and opportunity. The housing allocation programme must be implemented in a fair and just manner that ensures accountability.
