It is the 8th day since the start of the Sundays River water canal tie-in construction work started and construction work remains within schedule. Some areas like Kariega are starting to receive water again, although at low pressure.
Motherwell and parts of the Bethelsdorp remain under severe strain as water distribution from the Nooitgedacht Water Treatment Works is currently nil.
As a mitigation measure, the Metro has increased water tanker locations in the Motherwell and Wells Estate areas. More water trucks have been deployed with strict monitoring by both Water Services senior officials and Ward Councillors. Weather permitting, construction work is expected to be completed by end of Tuesday, 2 July 2024. On completion the team will start allowing water flow by Wednesday, 3 July 2024.
The refilling of reservoirs is expected to continue for the duration of Thursday to Friday, 5 July.
Normal water distribution is expected to se experienced by the weekend on to Monday, 8 July 2024. During this time the Metro will also be moving water from the less affected Western side to the Eastern side in addition to the increased water truck.
Water trucks have been deployed to the locations below:
- Corner of Nkamakhwe & Nqabana Streets, Motherwell NU 9.
- Bikana Street, Motherwell NU 5.
- Corner of Gugura & Xabana Roads, Motherwell NU 5.
- Corner of Tyinira & Khawlela Streets, Motherwell NU 5.
- Roaming in Salt Lake area.
- Third Avenue, Windvogal.
- Salsoneville Old Age Home.
- Endlovini Elaphant Park, Wells Estate.
- West End Clinic
These trucks may leave to refill however, they will return to the above-mentioned locations.
