Disaster Management Officials are out scouting various parts of Nelson Mandela Bay to identify and relieve families in need. No incidents or disaster relief efforts have been reported thus far.
Moderate rain started falling during the early hours of the morning and further heavier falls are expected during the day. According to Hugh van Niekerk of the weather office in Port Elizabeth, the easterly parts of the city has most of the significant falls with mainly Uitenhage and the Coega Industrial Development Zone affected.
The municipality established the Joint Operation Centre this morning and will continue to monitor the situation closely.
Meanwhile, electricity supply has been restored in Uitenhage following interruption at San Soucci, at the Algoa Road substation which affected a large section of the Uitenhage Industrial area.
Electrical engineers are investigating what caused the interruption in order to prevent possible re-occurrence.
A section of Charlo fed from the Justen sub-station is off due to a suspect cable fault. Engineers are attending to the restoration of supply.
