www.MyPE.co.za: Nelson Mandela Bay’s Jessica Roux showed on Sunday morning, 19 December, just why she is rated as one of South Africa’s top open water swimmers with a comfortable win over 2010 70.3 Ironman champion Lucie Zelenkova in the Dis-chem 3km Ocean Swim during round 4 of the Weekend Post Ocean Racing Series at Hobie Beach in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Roux had a strong swim with eventual men’s winner Wayne Jones, finishing 2nd overall on the morning – making for strong cardiac exercise for the men who couldn’t catch her. Michael Marais placed second in the Men’s race with Rebecca Newman and Hanre Barnard 3rd in their respective categories.
“It was very testing conditions for round 4, with strong off-shore winds making it a little more challenging for the participants” said Mike Zoetmulder of Zports, the event organisers.
The Series takes a short break and returns for Round 5 on 16th January 2011.
