The best way to wind down and relax after a hearty Christmas lunch will be to treat your friends and family to the soothing sounds of jazz music at the Emayhuyhu Diva Festival at the Jabavu Stadium in Kwanobuhle on Monday, 26 December.
The Emayhuyhu Diva Festival will feature some of the well-known ladies of jazz, such as Siphokazi, Nomhle, Fohloza and a host of other local artists.
Entrance to the event is free, and festival goers are encouraged to bring along campchairs, cooler boxes and picnic baskets.
Portfolio Chairperson for Sport, Recreation, Arts & Culture, Cllr Babalwa Lobishe, encouraged the residents of Nelson Mandela Bay to support the event in their numbers.
“This is the perfect event if you want to relax with family and friends who are in the city to spend time over Christmas. We are hosting the event in Uitenhage to include this area in the summer season festivities and also to make the people of Uitenhage feel part of Nelson Mandela Bay,” said Cllr Lobishe.
The Uitenhage born Tobi sisters, who make up the jazz group Fohloza, arrived in Nelson Mandela Bay from Johannesburg this week. Fohloza group member, Wendy Tobi, promised that they would wow the crowds with a new sound and vibe that they plan to unleash. “We are going to rock the crowds, and they must be ready to rock with us,” said Wendy.
