In the land of Coalitions we need to vote with that in mind

So, I have had another thought around my concern over whom to vote for in this months national elections:

My fall back voting standpoint has always been to vote for the strongest opposiion – a little bit of a lonely task in the pre-1994 days when the ‘stongest’ opposition could only field one parliamentary representative!

So maybe it is now time to choose from ONE of these surviving members* of the Multi Party Coalition:

  1. DA (Democratic Alliance) – Liberalism/Federalism, Centre
  2. IFP (Inkatha Freedom Party) – Conservatism/Ubuntu philosophy, Right-wing
  3. FF Plus (Freedom Front Plus) – Conservatism/Afrikaners interests, Right-wing
  4. ActionSA – Classical liberalism/Libertarianism, Centre-right
  5. ACDP (African Christian Democratic Party) – Christian right/Social conservatism, Centre-right to right-wing
  6. ISANCO (Independent South African National Civic Organisation)
  7. UIM (United Independent Movement) – Christian democracy, Centre-right
  8. UCDP (United Christian Democratic Party) – Christian democracy, Centre-right

A mixed ideological bag there that represents something for everyone on the Centre to Right Wing ideological spectrum.

* Three of the charter’s eleven members failed to garner the minimum number of signatures required by the Independent Electoral Commission and will not be contesting in the 2024 South African general election: the Spectrum National Party, Ekhethu People’s Party and Unemployed National Party.

The Multi-Party Charter (MPC), officially the Multi-Party Charter For South Africa (MPCSA), is a pre-election agreement in South Africa that aims to present a united front in the 2024 South African general election against the three-decade rule of the African National Congress (ANC) and the recent rise of the controversial Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK Party).
