If you are confused as to whom to vote for this month why don’t you try one of my two methods?
Method 1: From the time that I first qualified to vote my voting behaviour was driven by one axiom; “Vote for the strongest opposition.” Reason – a strong democracy perpetuates only on a strong opposition.
Elections 2024 now present a major problem for me and I am severely divided on whom to gift my precious votes to.
Historically the DA is still the strongest opposition and yet, in the back of my mind, I still have this irrational fear that, if the shit hits the fan, then the DA will form a coalition government with the ANC.
Yes, I have read the categorical denial from the Desperate Alternative that it will be a cold day in hell if that ever happens BUT, in the back of my mind I look at history and how the local DA made pacts with other partners that they roundly condemned. Then, when the coalition was going swimmingly, things fell apart and government changed.
Also – think for yourself, if you were second every year for 30 years and DESPERATE for power, wouldn’t you fall for a coalition government if invited?
I can see see the rationalisations now as the DA Press Release after elections 2024 just may read “We are forming a government of Naitonal Unity with the ANC in order to save South Africa from a coalition between the ANC, MK and EFF.” Words enough to placate the DA sheep as the DA enters the halls of the unholy.
In the back of my mind I do like what Independent Candidate Zachie Achmat purports to stand for and maybe our country is ready for an openly gay, HIV positive, atheist brought up in a muslim family to be our President.
Method 2: Faced with the above I thought that maybe I should retreat to my standback method of choosing a political leader and ask three questions of myself whilst considering each of the political party leaders.
3 Questions to Ask:
- Would I trust this person to babysit my children?
- Would I trust this person with the keys to my home?
- Would I trust this person to profitably run my business?
These are my personal results (based on amateur sleuthing):
| Q. 1 | Q. 2 | Q. 3 | |
| Cyril | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| John | Yes | No | Yes |
| Julius | No | No | No |
| Zachie | No | Yes | Yes |
| Mmusi | Yes | Yes | No |
| Herman | No | Yes | Yes |
| Jacob | No | No | No |
| Velenkosini | No | No | No |
| Pieter | No | Yes | No |
| Kenneth | No | Yes | No |
| Bantu | No | No | No |
| Patricia | Yes | Yes | No |
And, just looking at my own personal results I can see now how the ANC manages to stay in power. And that is probably why Jacob is so hell bent on attacking Cyril as that is the way to beat the ANC.
