In A Tug of War Between Horses and Humans Who Will Win?

12 June 2024 By Siyathetha

There will be plenty of opportunity for visitors to the 2024 SPAR Kirkwood Wildsfees to be part of the action in the daily horse demonstrations.

One of the activities planned by legendary Alexandria horse whisperer JC Schoeman is a tug-of-war between members of the audience and horses.

Spoiler alert – the horses usually win!

There will be other opportunities for members of the crowd to be part of the show.

Schoeman has been riding horses since he was 10 and his connection with his animals shines through during his shows.

There is a particularly strong bond with his “trick horse” Amigo, which bends down, rolls over and allows Schoeman to ride standing on her back.

Horse fun and Cowboy games planned for the SPAR Kirkwood Wildsfees include musical poles (musical chairs cowboy-style), pick up a friend, pole bending (a race between poles) and double horse single barrel, where two riders race each other around barrels.

There will be a string of 10 horses taking part in the shows, and another 10 ponies for children to ride around the grounds.

The shows are free to ticket holders and will be held daily in the MTN Arena from Friday, June 28 to Sunday, June 30.

“SPAR Eastern Cape is proud to be able to keep our name behind an event like the Kirkwood Wildsfees which has become an institution in the region and a boon to the Kirkwood community,” says SPAR Eastern Cape advertising manager Roseann Shadrach.

“The festival embodies our key pillars of family, passion and entrepreneurship.

“It’s a definite must on the Eastern Cape events calendar and it is beautiful to see how the SPAR Kirkwood festival brings family and friends together, while creating employment opportunities not only for passionate entrepreneurs but the local community at large as well.

“We are looking forward to another very successful SPAR Kirkwood Festival 2024 – ons gaan RUK!”

Other festival highlights include more than 21 hours of live entertainment on the giant ECPTA stage, an aerobatics show by multi-time aerobatic champion Patrick Davidson, a refreshed Walk on the Wildside experience the annual Wildsfees auction, a Boran cattle auction, and over 300 specialist stalls.

There is more horsepower on show at the new vehicle expo.
