If You Have Sensitive Ears/Eyes then Please Close Them Now

16 October 2021 By Alan Straton

Every Political Party needs a wake up call as I see them all going around saying things like; “We did this for you” and “we Did that for You” and “Since we came into power in January 2021 we have fixed 20 799 water leaks to prevent the taps from running dry, fixed 15 376 sewerage complaints and filled 8 325 potholes.”

FARGING LIARS *

Lets take the last ‘WE’ statement and break it down.

The Party in question has around 57 seats in council so that would mean that over the 270 days since 1 January 2021 each Councillor has personally attended to:

  • 1.35 Water Leaks per day
  • 1 Sewage Complaint per day
  • 0.54 Potholes per day

Now we know that we haven’t seen the Councillors doing the actual work so all they have been doing is issuing instructions to the relevant contractors.

* So why do I say that they are lying?

  1. They DID NOT do the work themselves and need to acknowledge the people doing the work and NOT take the acclaim for themselves only
  2. Look at the numbers above again and ask yourself just how much time will it take in your day to accept, administer, pass and report back on a service delivery complaint? Lets say 30 minutes!
  3. So at 2.89 complaints per day at a generous 30 minutes working time per complaint each the Ward Councillor will have productively used 1.445 hours of his/her working day.

WHAT does the Ward Councillor do for the rest of the day?

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
