I get my revenge on selfish able bodied disabled parker

26 February 2012 By Alan Straton

We live in a wonderful country with a wonderful constitution and incredibly friendly people who have overcome racism and prejudice in what other countries term a miracle.

I am sorry to say, though, that to this day there are still people who continue to cling to a racist and prejudical past and none more so than those able bodied people who insist on parking in the disabled parking bays.

This past Friday I observed a woman park her silver double cab in the disabled parking close to the Atrium Spar. Biting my tongue I checked that she was able bodied, did not have a sticker on her vehicle and proceeded to follow her at a safe distance into the Spar.

I allowed her some time to order her meal (chicken) and then rushed up to her tapping her lightly on the arm asking; “Mam, is that your silver Toyota Double Cab in the disabled parking?” Her mute and scared nod prompted the bombshell; “Well you had better run outside as they are busy clamping the wheels!”

To screams of; “Yoh, yoh, yoh” our disabled parking miscreant ran off only to see that I had been lying to her. When she re-entered the Spar my pointy finger reached out and I said; “Mam, WE DO NOT park in disabled parkings, now let that be a lesson to you!”

Not even the sniggers from the staff made her actually go and move her vehicle but I hope and pray that she has learned a lesson and never parks in the disabled parking again.

And so boys and girls we come full circle once again and I must conclude that all those able bodied persons that park in disabled parking spaces are actually racist (maybe disablist is a better word?) prejudiced pigs with no regard for our hard won democracy.

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.

Good show on your part. My partner is disabled and we are often faced with this problem, when you ask them to move they often take no notice of you. The worst offenders were in the disabled parking opposite the Casino, and I now see they have persons who regularly patrol the area checking all cars for disabled stickers.  The Spar parking for disabled is the one that is almost always used by able bodied persons, I go to this gym and have often witnessed this. Management there does not do a thing in my opinion..

Thanks Alan …..  we need more people to assist in stopping the abuse of the use of disabled parking bays … we are fast becoming a nation of selfish lawbreaking citizens … and it’s no longer the domain of the taxi drivers only!

It really gets up my nose that people so selfishly use the disabled parking.  Especially at Fiveways Spar – and it is generally young white women who are guilty.  Do they not have a conscience?  If you approach them, they get all uppity and rude.  Like YOU are the evil idiot and not them. I am grateful for being able to walk – so will walk an extra couple of metres happily.  But those people with NO intelligence are clearly limited by their lack of grey matter – perhaps is it a way of demonstrating to the general public how stupid they really are.
