21 March 2012 By Alan Straton

Marking Human Rights Day the Centre for Constitutional Rights presented its fourth annual Human Rights Report Card indicating where, in the opinion of the Centre, South Africa has been making progress with regard to human rights and where it has been regressing.

The report card below awarded the following grades for human rights: A = Excellent; B = Good; C = Average; D = Poor; and E = Very Poor. At the same time, the (+), (=) and (-) signs are used to indicate whether things are getting better, staying the same or deteriorating.

Dear Citizen, little Jonny South Africa has shown little spark this year as of the 29 subjects assessed the marks of:

  • 16 have stayed stagnant with no improvement
  • 4 have shown improvement on last year and
  • 9 have decreased on last year

Contrary to popular belief the reliance on a report card that would reflect a pass academically is NOT acceptable in the real world. We suggest that your Little Johnny South Africa pull up his socks and apply his mind to a marked improvement going forward.

Regards

Titshalakazi FW

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
